Ten Ways To Reduce Stress

Monday 14th November 2016

The majority of us experience stress at some point in our lives. However, when it is affecting your life, health and wellbeing, it is important to tackle it as soon as possible. There are many situations that can cause stress. The most common involve work, money and relationships with partners, children or other family members. If you’re feeling stressed, follow our checklist to reduce stress and switch off.

  1. Be Active – Regular exercise boosts endorphins, relaxes your mind and body, and improves sleep quality.
  2. Breathe – Take slow deep breaths throughout your day to relieve feelings of stress and anxiety.
  3. Meditate – Spend 10 to 20 minutes a day to be mindful. Meditation involves concentrating on your breathing and allowing stressful thoughts to drain away.
  4. Eat Clean – Your diet is linked to stress levels in the brain. Eating foods such as nuts, broccoli, whole grain and fish are great for relieving stress.
  5. Be Social – Talking to your friends and family can reduce your stress levels and allow you to feel calmer.
  6. Switch Off – Set aside at least an hour a day for a digital detox. It will allow you to switch off from the world and reduce your stress levels.
  7. Read – Reading helps your brain to relax and can reduce stress levels almost immediately. Reading at night is a good way to enable a good nights sleep.
  8. Take A Bath – After a stressful day, a long soak in a warm bath can relieve stress and relax tired muscles. Use essentials oils and candles for an even more relaxing experience.
  9. Listen To Relaxation Music – Stress can cause a busy mind. Switch off and clear your mind by listening to calming and relaxing music.
  10. Sleep – Having a good sleep pattern will reduce stress levels. You should aim to get into a routine of going to bed and waking up at the same time each day for a healthy sleep cycle.
