Town MP Robert Halfon was joined by Subash Suthar, business development manager for the International Glaucoma Association, at the official opening.
The store, which has been on the same site for 15 years, used the event to promote National Glaucoma Week (June 8-14) and raise awareness of the condition.
The IGA is a nominated charity of Vision Express.
Mr Suthar, who is trained in ophthalmology, worked for multinational pharmaceutical companies as a clinical specialist before joining the IGA. He helps to create educational programmes for glaucoma patients which allow them to understand the condition and its treatment.
He said: “I was delighted to help open the Vision Express store in Harlow and to raise awareness of glaucoma, especially as next week is National Glaucoma Awareness Week.”
Mr Halfon added: “I have been a customer of Vision Express in Harlow for over eight years and the quality, value and service is exceptional.
“Time and time again, they have given me the best solution in terms of my sight. For this reason I was incredibly proud to open the refurbished store.”
Sharon Whitelock, joint manager of the store, said: “It was really interesting to learn more about glaucoma and the work of the IGA.
“We’re very excited to be opening our new look store. Our Harlow team has many years of experience looking after eye care in the community and we are looking forward to continuing to offer a high level of service including comprehensive sight tests, sophisticated eye health screening equipment and a wide selection of frames in our newly refurbished store.”
