Get on Your Bike For Charity with Tesco and The Harvey Centre

Shoppers and staff are invited to cycle a combined total of 222 miles on a static bike to raise money for local inclusive theatre group, Razed Roof

From Thursday 6 to Saturday 8 November 2014, shoppers at The Harvey Centre are invited to get on their bike for charity with Tesco.

As part of its Community Action programme, the Tesco team at the Harlow-based shopping centre have teamed up with Razed Roof, a local inclusive theatre group. From 9am to 5.30pm across the three days, the store staff will be cycling on a static bike in the centre to fundraise for the charity. Their aim is to pedal a combined total of 222 miles – the same distance of Harlow to Liverpool (inspired by Razed Roof’s next production, a performance commemorating the Lusitania – which sank on its voyage to Liverpool).

Members of the public are also encouraged to get involved and make up the miles – for a minimum donation of just 50p.

Founded in 2004, Razed Roof works with people of all abilities, including those with disabilities and learning difficulties, to encourage involvement in the performing arts. The group is based at Harlow Playhouse and runs weekly theatre skills sessions, as well as putting on public performances.

Annette Lidster, Artistic Director of Razed Roof, said: “We are delighted that Tesco have chosen to support us with this fantastic fundraising challenge. Getting to 222 miles is certainly not going to be easy – but it’s all in the name of a good cause and will really help us to continue the work that we do.”

Daniel Judd, spokesperson for Tesco at The Harvey Centre, said: “Razed Roof is a fantastic local charity that does vital work for the arts – especially for those with disabilities and learning difficulties. We wanted to come up with a fundraising challenge that was a bit different and that both staff and members of the public could get involved with. Anyone around Harlow from 6 to 8 November should definitely be prepared to get on their bike!”
