This year is going to be an unbelievably exciting one for cinema. With so many blockbusters on the horizon, we thought we’d help you with the difficult decision of which ones are a must-see?
Well, we’ve come up with a list of films that we predict to be 2018’s biggest blockbusters to help you choose the perfect film for you next time you visit Cineworld, The Harvey Centre.
Marvel Studios have been a lean mean blockbuster making machine, and their highly anticipated 2018 action movie Black Panther is set to be another home run for the Disney owned production studio.
Following the story of the Marvel cinematic universe, Black Panther will be a continuation of the action seen in Avengers Civil War, Guardians of the Galaxy 2, Thor Ragnorok and the impending Infinity War. Set to the backdrop of Wakanda a fictional country on the continent of Africa, Black Panther will be a movie like no other.
The character of Black Panther can be seen as a fringe comic book character for most and isn’t as well known as an Iron Man or Wolverine, but don’t let that put you off watching this movie. Lesser known comic book characters whose stories have been turned into films have had huge success in recent years, Ant-Man, Guardians of the Galaxy and Deadpool to name but a few.
With a star-studded cast Including Chadwick Boseman (42, Get on up, Avenger Civil War) Lupita Nyong’o (12 years a slave, Star Wars) Michael B. Jordan (The Wire, Creed, Fruitvale Station) to name but a few, and being directed by the talented Ryan Cooler (Creed, Fruitvale station), Marvel Studios’ Black Panther is set to be a favourite for the whole family.
For any JK Rowling fans, the sequel to Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is set to be a big hit this year. We think it could even overtake the first one at the box office.
In November the title, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald was revealed with the below official plot synopsis:
At the end of the first film, the powerful Dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald (Depp) was captured by MACUSA (Magical Congress of the United States of America), with the help of Newt Scamander (Redmayne). But, making good on his threat, Grindelwald escaped custody and has set about gathering followers, most unsuspecting of his true agenda: to raise pure-blood wizards up to rule over all non-magical beings.
In an effort to thwart Grindelwald’s plans, Albus Dumbledore (Law) enlists his former student Newt Scamander, who agrees to help, unaware of the dangers that lie ahead. Lines are drawn as love and loyalty are tested, even among the truest friends and family, in an increasingly divided wizarding world.
With an all-star cast including Jude Law, Jonny Depp and Zoe Kravitz, we can’t wait to watch this one. You’ll have to wait a while though as it isn’t released until November 2018!
The hugely anticipated sequel to Jurassic World is set to be released on 22 June 2018, and if the first film is anything to go by, this is set to be a big blockbuster for 2018.
Four years after the Jurassic World theme park was closed down, Owen and Claire return to Isla Nubar to save the dinosaurs when they learn that a once dormant volcano on the island is active and is threatening to extinguish all life there. Along the way, Owen sets out to find Blue, his lead raptor and discovers a conspiracy that could disrupt the natural order of the entire planet. Life has found a way, again.
The new sequel promises plenty of spectacles, suspense and some truly terrifying lizards.
This is one for the more mature viewer, so skip ahead if you’re below 15!
It’s the third and final instalment the Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy based on the book of the same name. Whether you’re a fan of the first two films, a fan of the novels or just want to see what all the fuss is about, the previous Fifty Shades films have proven pretty popular.
Depicting the love life of Dorian Grey (Jamie Dornan) and his wife (Anastasia Steel) played by the radiant Dakota Johnson, this romantic trilogy of love, lust and limitless expenses is popular Valentine’s blockbuster despite receiving its fair share of critique. Whether you’re after a hot film to watch with your S.O or maybe just a laugh with the girls, don’t miss out.
Disney Pixar’s hit, ‘Incredibles’ has been a film that parents and children alike were hoping would get a sequel. Well, our wishes have been answered. The powers at Disney have given a green light for a follow up to the 2004 hit and it’s due for release in 2018!
With many of the same actors returning to voice our favourite characters and a few new A-list names added to the cast list, Incredibles 2 looks tipped to be just as good as the first one.
Not much is known about the plot for the Incredibles 2 yet as Disney are keeping their cards close to their chest. It is set to be a highly-anticipated film for 2018 though, and we can reveal that it will become apparent to Mr Incredible that baby Jack-Jack has powers. He took his time figuring that one out, we worked that out 14 years ago.
Whether young or old, Incredibles 2 will be a film that the whole family will be able to enjoy, bringing nostalgia and anticipation all in one master stroke.
Last, but certainly not least is Marvels’ piece de resistance, the film that all of the other Marvel films have been leading up to, it is…Avengers Infinity War.
Marvel Studios have had a string of successful movies in recent years, with each new instalment to the Marvel cinematic universe arguably surpassing the last.
As the Avengers have continued to protect the world together, this time they come together to defeat a new danger, Thanos. A despot of intergalactic infamy, his goal is to collect all six Infinity Stones, artefacts of unimaginable power, and use them to inflict his twisted will on all of reality. With this end of the universe threat, the Avengers Infinity War is tipped to be the biggest cinematic success of 2018.
Whichever film you decide, get your popcorn, nachos and a large drink, sit back in The Harvey Centre’s Cineworld’s comfy seats and enjoy the best of what cinema has to offer!
