2018 Fashion Trends

Thursday 15th February 2018

It’s a new year and that means new fashion trends. It is now time to start thinking ahead to what you will be wearing and how you can incorporate the hottest looks of 2018 into your existing wardrobe. After all, we would never recommend getting rid of your entire clothing collection in favour of a whole new load of stuff (although wouldn’t that be nice?!) The cleverest way to keep your style fresh is to make sure you have some tried and tested wardrobe staples that you can wear season after season and update with new key pieces to keep your outfits looking up to date.

With that in mind and to celebrate London Fashion Week, we have collated our predictions on what we will all be wearing in the coming months. These trends have already been showcased at New York Fashion Week so are more than guaranteed to be seen on the catwalk in London this month.

Sequins

Yes, you heard it right. This summer it will be all about sequins in fact sequins, glitter and anything sparkly are going to be a pretty big deal. So if you‘re a fan of glitzy outfits when the Christmas holiday kicks in then this trend is definitely for you. This trend will look absolutely amazing come festival season; think glittery outfits to match a glittery face and body make up. The great thing is you can add as much or as little sparkle to your outfit as you like. If you’re on a budget or not a huge fan of sequins you can accessorise your outfit with a statement blazer, shoes or even just a bag. If this trend is right up your street then make a statement in a head to toe ensemble.

Fringes

Fringing is back! Think bags, jackets and dresses that cascade fringing as you walk. Think fringed sandals and even accessories such as earrings. Keep it subtle though and don’t overload to avoid the risk of looking as though you’re trying to emulate a cowboy (unless that is the look you’re going for).

Pastels

There will be a lot of colour in the shops in the coming months but think pretty, delicate, ice cream shades as appose to bold statement colours. Feminine and fresh and perfect for the warmer months the key is to mix the colours, even clash them. You can go for a more tailored look with trousers and a blazer (of different pastel colours I might add) or something soft and floaty like a blush pink dress.  Colours to look out for are anything from mint green to sky blue. For a more subtle approach why not just add a hint of colour with a pastel jumper or jacket over cut off jean shorts.

Get the look:

Sheer

This one is perhaps more for the daring! The catwalk has seen many revealing sheer outfits being showcased from dresses to cycling shorts. You don’t quite have to go down that route though and instead subtly emulate this trend with a skirt or dress that features a sheer trim, or tops and dresses that feature sheer panels or arms and appose to exposing your whole body. Come festival season you can wear sheer loose tops over dresses and for a fancy lunch or night out you could opt for a sheer top or blouse. It’s just up to you whether you pop another top on underneath or dig out your best fancy bra and embrace the trend as the designers fully intended.

Checks

You may have noticed this trend appearing at the tail end of last year and it is set to continue well into 2018. Think check skirts, coats, trousers, check everything! A smart and sophisticated versatile look that can be worn out to dinner and to the office means investing in this trend with just one or two key investments guarantees a huge return. Think check trousers, a t-shirt, biker jacket and loafers or trainers for a more laid back look or you could invest in a lightweight check jacket for the cooler evenings (after all we get plenty of those in England!)
